Sigh.Voiced by Craig Ferguson, Gobber - the tough old trainer with a peg leg and interchangeable prosthetic arm devices - was one of the best characters in the original How to Train Your Dragon. I have to say that it's REALLY annoying that this has been bugged since 2012 and the only way we can get it is to basically cheat, rather than the devs just fixing it.
I still saw the bugged black rider as I flew the course (he stands on air in various spots for me), but I still finished 1st. Basically I started ahead of everyone else and had my 310% mount. I began exactly where I was, not down in the water like he did (though I was prepared for that). I kept it held forward the second time as the timer clicked down and started the race. Don't know what this did, but it kept me from flying too far forward, as letting go of forward stopped me and I didn't continue moving when I pushed it again. I then let go of the forward arrow and then pressed it again. I was on my mount when I took the quest, backed up a bit, then WALKED by her as I spoke with her and KEPT walking forward till I had flown off the cliff. When he says he's pushing down he means forward. This video gives a visual of what you need to do (sorry in advance for his extremely annoying voice). I have no more characters presently able to test this method, but I'm pretty sure I did the same exact thing twice in a row and got the Ach both times. When I got to the finish line, I flew over it, then turned around and flew under it the wrong way, just as I had done earlier on my alt. I hauled my main out around the course, and the NPCs left me in the dust as before. Not sure if this was repeatable (hoping it was), I hopped on my main and attempted the autorun strategy mentioned by skybow94eu, but I did not click fast enough and was stuck in the race. However, as I crossed the line going the wrong way, I got the achievement! I did a 180 turn and flew under the banner the wrong way, intending to turn around again and re-cross it. For some reason the quest did not register as completed when I flew under the finish line banner. It's been a while since my main was here, so I forgot part of the course and the NPCs flew far ahead of me and were all out of sight when I finally got to the finish line. Today, I was sending an alt through on his first race. You might as well finish with 10 stacks of Fleet Winds (for In a Trail of Smoke) as it's on the way, not hard, just don't deviate too much, there are plenty of cloud rings to fly through! As you can see you mostly save time on the last part, just be sure you get the checkpoint marked before turning and such, it's easy to miss these flags if you rush too much! Comment by VladYou can use this TomTom macro to show nodes on your maps, but beware that the crazy arrow usually doesn't select the proper "next" checkpoint, so I recommend you turn off automatic tracking or simply ignore it, instead use map or minimap for overview of the race checkpoints.
